Space Camp has once again returned! This camp is designed for students, grades 7 through 12, who are academically on grade level, independent, demonstrate high endurance, and are team players.

Qualified applicants who meet the challenge of Space Camp at NCECBVI will be considered for a possible mission to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama as a member of the NCECBVI flight crew in September, 2008 (grades 9 through 12 only).

If high school students are enrolled in the Nebraska Commission for the Blind or Visually Impaired WAGES program during the summer, they may enroll in Space Camp as well. Those who register for Space Camp will need to notify their WAGES counselors and make individual arrangements to do both.

For Space Camp, students are asked to arrive at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 22nd for a group supper. Space Camp will end on Wednesday, June 25th at 4:00 p.m.

Sizzlin’ Summer Camp Information

All school-aged children with visual impairments are welcome to attend. Children will participate in instructional lessons in classrooms, enjoy the great outdoors and partake in summer fun activities. Last year, NCECBVI was filled with patches and pirates. This year we are goin’ bananas on a surf monkey safari!

Students are asked to arrive at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27th. The camp will end at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2nd.

Specific instruction and activities will be based on the ages and needs of the students who are enrolled. The NCECBVI teachers and staff, along with the assistance of the UNL vision endorsement teachers, will embed core and expanded core curriculum into the daily schedules. Students will gain new experiences, learn and apply social skills, meet other students with visual impairments, and maybe even practice their Braille!
